Abstract
478,364. Winding yarns. MONCRIEFF, R. W., and HILL, F. B. Julv 20, 1936, No. 20038. [Class 120 (ii)] A yarn-winding apparatus comprises a package support 1 with means for rotating the package on the support, a rotatable yarn guide 9 presenting an endless slot or groove 10 through which the yarn is led to the package, means for rotating the guide 9 so that the yarn is traversed to and fro along a part of the length of the package, a non-rotating guide 12 adapted to conduct the yarn to the guide 9, and means for traversing the guides 9, 12 slowly together to and fro from end to end of the package. As shown, the package support or bobbin 1 is driven by a friction wheel 3 and the guide 9 is mounted on a shaft 11 splined to a gear 16 driven from the shaft 18 and connected by a block 22 at its end to one arm 19 of a bell-crank lever 19. 20 pivoted at 21 with a bowl 27 at the end of the other arm 20 engaging a cam 25 on a shaft 26. The block 22 is pivoted to the lever arm 19 and the rod 13 carrying the guide 12 is secured to the block so that as the shafts 18. 26 rotate, the yarn is laid on a part of the bobbin 1 by the guide 9 which, with the guide 12, is slowly traversed from one end of the bobbin to the other by the cam 25. The guide 9 is preferably disposed outside the flanges of the bobbin 1 and traversed slightly beyond the flange so as to direct the yarn closely thereto. A number of bobbins may be arranged in several. rows with common mechanism for actuating the traversing means for the bobbins in each row.
