Abstract

365,279. Doubling artificial silk. PARCOFIL AKT.-GES., 20, Peterstrasse, Zurich, Switzerland.-(Assignees of Ruka Ges. fur Patentverwertung; 10, Neum³hlequai, Zurich, Switzerland.) Dec. 19, 1930, No. 38397. Convention date, Dec. 19, 1929. [Class 120 (ii).] In doubling-machines for artificial silk in which the thread from the doubling-spindles is fed to the winding-means at a uniform rate, a separately driven bobbin-winder is provided for each doubling-spindle, constituting a unit, and automatic stop-apparatus is provided for each unit. The doubling-spindles are driven by pneumatic, hydraulic, or electric means either directly or through a countershaft and friction wheels or pinions. As shown in Fig. 1, bobbin-winding mechanism 11, adapted to wind with a constant speed of the thread whatever the diameter of the bobbin or the diameter at which winding is taking place in the case of conical bobbins, is provided, and the doubling-spindles 5 and twisting-cups 9 are driven by compressed air or steam from a supply 1 through pipes 2. As shown in Fig. 2, the thread is wound on a conical bobbin 17, the mechanism being driven by adjustable friction discs 18, and sizing and dyeing apparatus 37 and drying apparatus 38 being provided. If steam is used to drive the doubling-spindles the exhaust may be utilized for drying or humidifying the threads. The fluid nozzles 13, Fig. 4, of the driving-apparatus may be displaced, as shown in dotted lines, to reverse the rotation of the doubling-spindles, and are provided with adjustable supply devices 44. Upon excessive tension or upon breakage or failure in the supply of the thread, an arm 28 engages a stop 32 or a stop 31 and through a lever system operates the stop-rod 20 of the winding-mechanism, applies a cone brake 24 to the doubling-spindle and interrupts the supply of the motive fluid by means of a shield 27. The stop motion is also actuated upon the bobbin being fully wound by means of a lever 46.
