[Class 39 (i)] [Also in Group XX] A cathode-ray tube is provided with a screen having fluorescent and photosensitive properties, a control electrode being mounted inside the tube for controlling the fluorescent light produced when the tube is operating in a television receiver, and an output electrode being disposed inside or outside the tube for television signals, produced when the screen acts as the photosensitive layer in a television transmitter. The screen may be formed of a material which is both fluorescent and photosensitive, or a mixture of fluorescent and photosensitive materials may be used. When the tube is operating as a transmitter, a luminous image is projected on to the screen p, f, which is scanned by the beam, whereby the output electrode e receives impulses which are transmitted to a line l<1> through switches s<1>, t<1> and an amplifier Am. When the tube operates as a receiver, impulses from the line l<1> are transmitted to the control electrode g through the switches s<2>, t<2>. Specification 476,865 is referred to.
