Abstract

477,122. Damped resilient couplings. VOITH, W., VOITH, H., and VOITH, H., (trading as VOITH, J. M., [Firm of]). Feb. 18, 1937, Nos. 4942 and 4943. Convention dates, Feb. 20, 1936 and March 2, 1936. [Class 80 (ii)] A fluid-damped resilient coupling between members 1, 2 comprises a group of torsionallystressed stirrup-shaped springs 8, and a series of vanes 4, 9 on the member 2, engaging fluidspaces 3 in the member 1. In the lower part of Figs. 1 and 2 clearances 5 are provided at the tops of the vanes 9 and between the various spaces 3, a viscous fluid, preferably oil, being forced through these clearances in one direction or the other as the springs 8 yield under torque. In the upper part of these figures, the vanes 4 carry sliders 6, pressed outwardly by springs or by centrifugal force, the sliders and vanes having fixed or adjustable throttling apertures. In Fig. 3 there are two groups of springs of different stiffness, one group d being rigidly connected to both members a, b, whilst the other, e, is connected to the member a and to a floating ring c, which has a lost-motion toothed connection c<1> with the member b, so that the group e only comes into operation after a predetermined yield of the group d. Fluiddamping vanes f, g are provided for each group of springs.
