Abstract

535,332. Shaft and pipe flexible couplings. METALASTIK, Ltd., and GOLDSCHMIDT, M. July 29, 1939, No. 22052 and 24572. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] A resilient coupling for shafts or pipe ends comprises a pair of plates connected to the shaft or pipe ends and coupled together by a plurality of independent flexible units. Each unit comprises a pair of metal pieces provided with connection means to the plates, and each having one or more flanges, the flange or flanges on one'piece being spaced from the flange or flanges on the other piece, the intervening space being filled with rubber surface bonded to the flanges. In one form channel shaped parts 1, 2, Figs. 1, 2, are partially nested one within the other and connected by rubber blocks 5, 6. Studs 3, 4 are provided for securing the unit to the plates on the ends of the shafts or pipes. The parts 1, 2 may be arcuate as shown or rectangular. In a modification the rubber pieces extend radially instead of circumferentially with respect to the shaft axis, the width of the rubber varying as the distant from the axis. In another modification the ends of the flanges are bent at right angles to the remainder and enclosed in the rubber mass. In a further modification three flanged plates are used, the outer ones are secured together and the third is nested between the outer ones and spaced therefrom by rubber. Specification 535,368 is referred to.
