Abstract

344,139. Universal shaft couplings. CROFT, F. and CROFT, A., of Crofts (Engineers), Ltd., Thornbury, Bradford, Yorkshire. Jan. 15, 1930, No. 1391. [Class 80 (ii).] In a resilient coupling, the coupling members 2, 2a are joined by separate flat bifurcated springs a, Fig. 2, or b, Fig. 7, which are inserted radially into slots formed by radiating projections 6, 6a in the coupling members. The resilient action may be modified by varying the number of springs. The slots in each member may be flared as at w, or one series may be flared and the other straight. Each spring member a spans two arms ss<1> of the two adjoining springs, and the modified link spring b, which has a saw-cut 7 to increase its flexibility, spans a single projection 6, 6a on each coupling member. Annular retaining members 4, 4a bolted together are preferably used for both forms of spring whereby endwise spring movement is prevented, although in the case of the link spring b it is only necessary to encircle the outer periphery of the coupling members.
