Abstract

357,271. Couplings for drill stems. GATTRELL, W. S., Lee's Summit, Missouri, U.S.A. June 27, 1930, No. 19608. [Class 99 (i).] A well-drilling stem section 14 is connected to another section or a drill 25 by a two-part coupling member 1, 22 the extreme ends of which are formed with tapered screw-threaded spigots 3, 24 to engage sockets on the stem and tool respectively and grooves 5 adjacent thereto to be engaged by ribs 15 on the said parts. Fluidtightness is secured by copper packing rings 20 disposed between the parts as shown. The coupling parts 1, 22 have a, spigot- and-socket screw-threaded connection.
