Abstract
520,424. Hydraulic couplings. SALERNI, P. M. Aug. 20, 1938, No. 24580. Drawings to Specification. [Class 69 (ii)] A hydraulic power transmission apparatus of the kind in which a rotary impeller or driving member having ducts between vanes drives by means of liquid circulating in a closed circuit a turbine having ducts the inlets whereof are disposed further from the driving axis than the outlets, and in which a reaction member is used, is constructed to reduce the eddying or turbulence due to the impinging of the fluid upon the inlet ends of the vanes with an impeller which has at least a substantial part of its ducts non- divergent, and with a turbine which has bulbous members. The invention as described embodies a construction of impeller member as set forth in Specification 493,459, and a turbine element having vanes with bulbous ends as in Specification. 505,356, and with reaction members as in this Specification. The reaction members may embody the features set forth in Specification 520,224, in which are provided at least two reaction elements between which are interposed at least one set of turbine vanes, which reaction elements are capable of rotation relatively to each other and of which at least one under some conditions of operation rotates in a forward direction, and is such that the radial distance from the axis of rotation of the middle points of the inlets between its vanes is slightly greater than the radial distance 'from such axis of the middle points of the corresponding outlets.
