614,645. Hydraulic couplings. BROWN, T. W. F., YATES, H. G., and PARSONS & MARINE ENGINEERING TURBINE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION. July 15, 1946, No. 21158. [Class 69 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXVI and XXXIII] In a marine power plant in which power from a turbine is conveyed to a primary toothedpinion by way of ahead and reverse drive hydraulic couplings, the driving elements of which are connected together by an inner shaft passing through the pinion, one or more additional turbines are connected to the inner shaft by hydraulic couplings. A gas turbine e, Fig. 1, drives a pinion b through an inner shaft a which carries on each side of the pinion the driving element of a hydraulic coupling. One coupling c is used for ahead driving and one coupling d for astern driving. A further turbine f is coupled through the hydraulic coupling g to the shaft a. In a modification, a further additional turbine is connected through a further additional hydraulic coupling to the shaft a. A second further turbine may be connected by a second further hydraulic coupling to a further pinion connected to the transmission system.
