Abstract
592,639. Propelling ships. TRIGGS, W. W. (Akt.-Ges. Brown, Boveri, & Cie.). May 16, 1945, No. 12346. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Nov. 26, 1945.] [Class 114] A gas turbine propelling plant is started by an electric motor system 7 which receives its power from a separate diesel-driven generator 9. When running, the motor can be utilised as an auxiliary generator and the generator 9 stopped. Also, if desired, the generator 9 could be used as an auxiliary engine, driving the ship through the motor 7, the turbine being disconnected by the coupling 5. In a modification, the motor 7 is duplicated and changespeed gears inserted in the reduction gearing.
