Abstract
1,018,784. Hydro-mechanical variable-speed gear. P. PRAKASH. Feb. 7, 1962 [April 7, 1961], No. 12586/61. Headings F2C and F2D. A split-torque hydromechanical gear comprises a hydrodynamic torque converter 12 having impellers 8, 9 driven through gear pairs 2, 4 and 3, 5 by an input shaft 1 and turbines 10, 11 driving an output shaft 19 through gear pairs 15, 17 and 16, 18. A freewheel between the gear 4 and impeller 8 permits the impeller to overrun, and a freewheel between the turbine 11 and the gear 15 permits reverse rotation of the turbine relative to the gear. One simplified modification has a single turbine and twin impellers geared to a common input shaft, another modification has a single impeller and twin turbines geared to a common output shaft.
