Abstract

In apparatus for the production of thread, <PICT:0475023/IV/1> particularly artificial silk thread, of the kind comprising reels or the like upon which the thread being formed and treated is wound in a large number of advancing helical turns, each reel is driven from one end only and has no shaft extension beyond the other end, so that the latter is free and unobstructed, and all the reels are disposed on an operative face of the machine, so that the free and unobstructed ends are presented to that face. As shown, the reels 5a ... 5i are arranged in stepped formation in two inclined banks, and the threads from the spinnerets pass thereto from a reel 5, the discharge end of each of the reels being substantially in the same plane as the receiving end of the next succeeding reel.
