Abstract

<PICT:0474974/IV/1> <PICT:0474974/IV/2> Apparatus for use in the treatment of thread, particularly artificial silk thread, comprises one or more thread-advancing devices or reels, each of which is mounted on a shaft which does not project beyond the reel at one end and is constructed and operated to advance the thread in a large number of generally helical turns towards that end, so that the delivery of the thread is facilitated. The free end of each reel is disposed adjacent the thread-receiving end of the succeeding reel. The reels may be of the form described in Specification 413,414, [Group IX], and comprise a member 10 rotating with a shaft 12 and provided with integral bars 13 embracing bars 20 carried by a ring member 11 which rotates with the member 10 about an axis which is eccentric to that of the shaft 12 and adjustably inclined thereto, whereby the rotation of the reel with the consequent relative movement of the bars causes the progress of the thread therealong. The reels may be arranged in stepped relationship, as described in Specification 474,973, or as shown in Fig. 1 wherein filaments from a coagulating bath pass from end to end along a reel 1 and in succession along reels 1a, 1b, 1c, reagents being sprayed by distributers 32 and drained from troughs 33.
