Abstract
In an arrangement for removing thread from one rotating reel, on which the thread is being wound and automatically laterally displaced, to another such reel, particularly for the liquid treatment of artificial silk continuously with production, the thread near the end of the first reel is severed and the free end so formed is brought into contact with the next reel. Preferably, the means which causes the severance of the thread conveys the new end to the next reel. The device may consist of a <PICT:0416231/IV/1> <PICT:0416231/IV/2> brush adapted to be moved into contact with the first reel to cause severance of the thread, and means for guiding the brush to the periphery of the second reel, including a spring for moving the brush from one reel to the other. Thread from the spinning bath is led to the top reel 1, Fig. 2, comprising two skeleton reels 28, 29 mounted one within the other on eccentrically disposed bearings 26, 27, whereby the thread is automatically advanced axially along the reel in known manner, during which time it may be subjected to liquid treatment, such as washing, desulphurizing or scouring, by spray from the nozzle 6 fed by the pump 7 from the trough 8. When the thread reaches the end of the reel it is picked up or severed by the brush 12, which projects through a slit 16 in the casing 5; the brush is then moved down the guideway, manually, under gravity, or under the tension of the spring 14, until it reaches position 15. The thread end 19 then forms a loop 18 which enters a slot 17 in the casing 5 of reel 2, and is picked up by and wound on the reel 2. This is repeated for each pair of reels. In a modification, Fig. 4, the guide 20 for the brush is arranged so that the brush contacts with each reel; the brush is raised by the handle 13 to position 23, where it picks up a thread end, it then falls by gravity or with the help of the tension spring 14<1> to position 22, the thread being brought into contact with the periphery of the lower reel 2, to which it adheres and is wound; leaf springs may be arranged in the guide slot opposite the lower reel, to retard the fall of the brush at that point. The brush may be about a quarter of an inch wide.
