Abstract
780,417. Winding yarn. BRITISH NYLON SPINNERS, Ltd. Oct. 12, 1956 [Oct. 27, 1955]; No. 30711/55. Class 120(2) A process for winding yarn on a rotating receiving member mounted on a spindle by means of a ring surrounding said member and a traveller free to rotate around said ring, the ring being mounted in a ring rail for movement axially of the spindle, is characterized in that the initial lengths of yarn are wound in a bunch or bunches separate from the main winding by means of a secondary ring and traveller positioned below the field of traverse of the ring rail and surrounding the receiving member and/or a part of the spindle upon which the receiving member is mounted. In the arrangement shown yarn 1 is led from some processing apparatus (not shown) through a guide 3 positioned above a vertical spindle having a yarn receiving member 5 thereon. The yarn is lead through the main traveller 7 on ring 9 which is reciprocated over a length of the yarn receiving member 5 by a ring rail 11, and then to a secondary traveller 13 on a ring 15 and is positioned on a projection or hook 17. The ring 15 is mounted on a rail 19 which is connected to a treadle (not shown) which serves to determine the height-wise position of the traveller 13. A waste auxiliary tube 21 is fitted loosely around the member 5 and seated on the spindle whorl 23. Initially the yarn is held in engagement with the secondary traveller 13 by means of a trapping ring 25. After the initial windings have been wound on the waste tube 21 the ring 25 is moved upwards and the main winding on the member 5 is commenced. The secondary ring and traveller may also be used to wind a transfer tail on the main receiving member 5 before the main winding starts. It is stated that the invention may also be used in combination with a waste receiving device such as a suction tube &c. Specifications 543,466, 643,625, 780,414, 780,415 and 780,416 are referred to.
