Abstract

780,414. Winding thread. BRITISH NYLON SPINNERS, Ltd. Dec. 1, 1955 [Dec. 3, 1954], No. 35006/54. Class 120(2) In a process for the winding of a thread co-incidently with the performance of another operation on it, that length of thread which is initially wound and on which the further operation may not have been fully performed is wound upon an auxiliary tube co-axial with a spindle which bears a main receiving tube for the thread, which auxliary tube is adapted to encompass and to be capable of being driven in company with the main tube provision being made for relative movement to take place between the main tube and the auxiliary tube, the thread being wound upon the main tube and traversed therealong by a traveller free to rotate about a ring mounted on a reciprocating ring rail. As shown, apparatus for carrying . out the above process comprises an auxiliary tube 15 which rests on the whorl 11 of the spindle 9 such that the upper portion of the auxiliary tube encompasses the lower end portion of the main yarn receiving tube 13. An auxiliary traverse mechanism 21 is provided to co-operate with the auxiliary tube and comprises a horizontal rocker shaft 23 having a series of arms each having a hook shape portion 25 at its free end. When a winding operation is to commence on a freshly inserted tube the first leading portion of yarn 19 is wound on the auxiliary tube 15 by the auxiliary traverse mechanism 21. After the non-processed yarn has been wound on the auxiliary tube 15. the winding proper starts on the main tube 13 by the traveller 7 on the ring 1 carried by ring rail 5 in the usual manner. In a second embodiment arrangements are made for the auxiliary tube 15 to be held initially within the ring.1 so that the first few windings are wound thereon. Subsequently the auxiliary ring is released from this position and the winding proper takes place on the main tube. The thread between the package and the auxiliary tube is cut so as to provide Sufficient length of "transfer tail. Specifications 543,466 and 780,417 are referred to.
