Abstract

1,139,695. Continuous winding. T.M.M. (RESEARCH) Ltd. 16 Oct., 1967 [18 July, 1966], No. 32178/66. Heading D1J. A yarn winding apparatus for winding two coaxial packages has a yarn guide 5 releasably secured to a reciprocating traversing member 16. The guide 5 is initially securable in a first position (as shown at 18) to the traverse 16 to form a first package 11 but is displaceable, e.g. by a means 23, to a second position 20 to transfer the winding process to the other package support 12. As shown, the reciprocating traverse 16 is formed with three waisted portions 18, 19 and 20 and the yarn: guide 5 is fitted with a spring-loaded catch 21 to engage with these waisted portions. The guide is displaced between the winding stations by means 23, which comprises two pairs of spring loaded pawls 24 and 25, and 26 and 27 by pivoting the displacing means about a horizontal axis so as to position one of the pawl pairs in the path of guide pin 22. The pawl 26 thus abut the guide pin 22 and cause the guide 5 to be displaced relative to the traverse 16 as the latter reciprocates and then engage with waist 19. The next reciprocation of traverse 16 causes guide 5 to move past pawl 27 and the next reciprocation causes pawl 27 to abut guide pin 22 and displace it to engage with waist 20. Winding then commences on package support 12. The guide can be returned to wind package support 7 by similar use of pawls 24 and 25. Alternatively a forked arm (not shown), which pivots about an axis at right angles to the traverse direction, can engage pin 22 to displace yarn guide 5 between the winding stations. A stationary yarn guide 28 may pick up the yarn during transfer of winding from one package support to the other and sever the yarn, see Figs. 4 and not shown. The cut end of the yarn can be gripped at the start of winding by a toothed annulus 29 on the package support. The package supports 7 and 12 or the packages are rotated by roller 6. The fully wound package can be lifted off the roller 6 to be doffed.
