Abstract

Each winding station of an automatic winding machine has a device for repairing yarn breakages comprising suction nozzles for locating, taking up and drawing in the yarn ends from supply and take-up bobbins to an automatic breakage correction device, and checking means for ensuring that both yarn ends are satisfactorily drawn in, the checking means being associated with deflection means for moving the yarn ends into engagement with the checking means. Repetition of the complete knotting cycle can thus be avoided when the yarn ends have not been satisfactorily drawn in. In Fig. 1, the suction nozzles 1, 5 are pivoted on links 8, 80 to approach the packages on detection of yarn breakage. They are then withdrawn, during which motion a cam 16 deflects an arm 12, pushing the yarns into notches 11 in a checking device 10. In Fig. 2, the nozzles are themselves pivoted during withdrawal, by means of push-rod 8' and notch 22, again engaging the yarns momentarily with the checking device.
