Abstract

1,148,169. Creels. W. REINERS. 23 Aug., 1966 [26 Aug., 1965], No. 37647/66. Heading DIM. Thread engaging and knotting (or other joining) device for joining the thread ends on a bobbin creel and mobile along the creel between the supply packages 1 and the thread tensioners 5 comprises a gripper rod 7, bent over at its gripping end 8 and carrying gripper elements (not shown, but which may be mechanical or pneumatic), which is pivotally mounted to move between the ready-laid thread commencement a of the supply package and the thread end b on the tensioner. The rod 7 is pivoted with a tube 9 and may in addition be rotatable about its longitudinal axis by a rack 16 engaging a gear 15. The thread end b is pushed by a rod 19 (Fig. 1, not shown) through a slot 18 in a plate 17 and is retained by a suction device 21 (Fig. 1) and the thread end a when brought over by the gripper is pushed into the slot alongside thread b. A knotter 22, which may be carried on rod 7, or other joining device, e.g. sticking apparatus, effects the joining of the ends. A separate device may be provided at the height of each row of packages to enable all the threads in each column to be connected simultaneously.
