Abstract

1,152,698. Continuously winding up stock. VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY I PROEKTNO KONSTRUKTORSKY INSTITUT METALLURGICHESKOGO MASHINOSTROENYA. 27 May, 1966, No. 23941/66. Heading D1J. An apparatus for the continuous coiling up of stock and comprising a turntable carrying at least two driven reels upon which the stock is to be wound, is characterized in that a stock severing device 8, 14 Fig. 5 is associated with each reel for severing the stock after passing from a full reel to an empty reel, and a device 8, 11 for gripping the leading end portion of the next-length of the stock after severing is completed; the severing and gripping device comprising a common lever 7 that rotates with its reel and oscillates to make cyclic severing and gripping movements during rotation of its reel before a stock end portion has been gripped and to be locked in position after severing has taken place for gripping the leading end portion of the stock. Prior to the stock being placed under the gripper-knife, the gripper knife 8 is rocked up and down once per revolution of its reel by means of a roller 15, Fig. 2, running on an annular cam 16. When stock is placed below gripper 8 the cyclic downward movement of the gripper 8 causes the stock to press down on a pawl 10 causing the pawl 10 to release a catch 9. The catch 9 is then rocked by a spring 12 such that it oo-operates with a pin 20 in a manner locking the gripper 8 in its stock-clamping setting. When a fresh supply of stock is to be coiled up a cam arrangement causes a plurality of fingers 25, Fig. 6 to rise up and a stock entry guide rises to the broken line setting to feed the stock over the fingers 25 into the annular space between the finger 25 and the reel barrel. The leading end of the stock becomes snagged by the fingers 25 and these then cause the stock to be wrapped around the reel barrel.
