Winding-machines; thread-severing arrangements.-In thread-winding and like apparatus of the kind comprising a rotatable bobbin carrier 2, Fig. 1, which is periodically moved to carry a wound bobbin out of and to bring an empty bobbin into the winding position, means are provided for automatically cutting the thread leading to the wound package during or after the movement of an empty bobbin into the winding position, the means operating to permit or cause the severed free end of the supply thread to engage the empty spindle or bobbin. The empty bobbin is moved into contact with the thread between the thread-guide 4 and the full bobbin in its rotation into the winding position, and the thread-severing means comprise a knife-blade 8 on a lever arm 6 pivoted at 7 and arranged to move transversely between the bobbin-spindles 3 so as to wrap the severed thread round the empty bobbin, as shown in Fig. 4. The arms 6 are rocked by the engagement of studs 12 on a bar 10 in forked end members 9, the bar 10 being reciprocated by a cam 17 engaging a bowl 16 on a link 14 and driven by gearing 20 from the spindle driving-means. The cam is adjusted so that the knife-blade 8 is swung towards the thread when the full bobbin has reached, or is about to reach, the upper position. Fig. 5 shows the severed thread and the free end wrapped round the empty bobbin.
