Abstract

1,145,309. Winding up yarns. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 10 Nov., 1967 [8 Dec., 1966], No. 55061/66. Heading D1J. A package driving roller 13 has one endportion 11 of reduced diameter, this end-portion 11 being connected with the main portion of full diameter by an intermediate frustoconical portion. The frusto-conical portion is formed with a screw thread 17. The package is wound on a tubular yarn holder 1 biased against the roller 13, the holder 1 having a notch 10 at one end. The yarn is traversed onto the roller 13 by reciprocable means (21, 23) Fig. 2 (not shown). In operation, the yarn end is inserted in notch 10 and the apparatus set in motion. A swivelling pin (25) Fig. 3 (not shown) delays movement of the yarn along the end-portion 11 whilst a yarn bunch is wound on the holder 1. Thereafter the yarn is caught up and traversed by the thread 17 to form a transfer tail an the holder 1. Thereafter the yarn is traversed by the aforesaid means (21, 23). The reduced end-portion 11 is stated to reduce the chance of the yarn adhering to the roller 13 and not the holder 1 at the start of a winding operation. The end portion 11 may have a mast-chromed finish and the full diameter portion 13 a bright chromed surface.
