Abstract

620,105. Spinning yarns. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. Jan. 6, 1947, No. 399. Convention date, Feb. 5, 1946. [Classes 120 (ii) and 120 (iii)] Apparatus for making a coiled coreless yarn such as that described in Specification 595,439 comprises a fixed spindle 15 provided at one end with a mandrel 10 having a shoulder 28 and a tapered needle 29, and means for winding yarn about the needle adjacent the shoulder so that the coils abut one another and each new coil crowds the other coils along the needle, the latter being bent laterally adjacent the shoulder to direct each new coil into the space between the shoulder and the bent portion of the needle. As shown highly-twisted yarn 32 is delivered from a rotating package 27 and coiled about needle 29 in the same direction as the twist, and the coiled yarn 31 feeds itself off the needle tip to be wound on a take-up spool 33. A baffle plate or bar 35 may be mounted adjacent the needle to direct the yarn to its proper coiling position.
