Class 120(ii) A cross - winding machine having a slit or grooved package-driving drum 1, is provided with a thread guide or tensioner 6 constituting a non-traversing thread running-on point, the arrangement being such that the line of thread between the. running-on point 6 and the drum 1 makes an angle 9 of less than 90 degrees with the horizontal plane 8 as shown the angle 11 between centre line 10 of the supply cop 5 and the running-on thread preferably being less than 180 degrees and the vertical distance of the drum axis above the point 6 being less than the diameter of the drum.
