Classes 120(ii) and 120(iii) The thread-guiding drum of a cross-winding machine is provided with a groove or split of a pitch varying gradually from a maximum value # immediately after each point 3 of yarn reversal to a minimum value #<SP>1</SP> immediately before each point 3 of yarn reversal. The Fig. shows a development of the grooved or split drum. The angles # at which the threads in succeeding layers cross each other, e.g. at any corresponding points 4 or 5, will be the same throughout the wind.
