473,881. Crankshafts; securing bearing-races on shafts. BRISTOL AEROPLANE CO., Ltd., FEDDEN, A. H. R., and OWNER, F. M. March 19, 1936, No. 26628/37. Divided out of 473,758. [Class 80 (ii)] A roller main bearing 19 is clamped against shoulders on the centre web 17 of a built-up crankshaft by means of a bolt 27, passing through an inclined hole 18 in the web, and carrying clamping washers 23, engaging recesses in L- sectioned half-rings 21, arranged between the bearing and a cylindrical part of the web. The bearing is threaded over a crank-pin before assembly, and a key is arranged between it and the half-rings 21. The bolt-hole 18, which is used also in conjunction with holes 18 for obtaining alignment of the crankshaft parts in subsequent assembly operations, as described in Specification 473,758, forms a lubricant conduit, and the bolt 27 is hollow and provided with small holes 28, which permit slight leakage for lubricating the pistons and cylinder-walls of an engine.
