Abstract

659,654. Valve-gear. DEHN, S. G. (Continental Motors Corporation). June 3, 1949, No. 14973. [Classes 7(ii) and 7(vi)] [Also in Group XXXIV] A valve rocker 2 comprises a bifurcated arm 6 carrying a hard-metal (e.g. steel) cam-follower roller 20 mounted on a softmetal (e.g. bronze) hub 10 which is mounted on a pin 8 and locked thereto by a locking- pin 12. The ends of the pin 8 are turned over to prevent rotation thereof. The inner diameter of the roller 20 is greater than the outside diameter of the hub 10 so as to permit the formation of an oil film in the space 24 fed with lubricating oil through passages 26, 28. During operation the roller 20 wears the hub 10 so that a large bearing area is formed therebetween. The ends of the pin 12 may be machined to conform with the surface of the pin 8, as shown, or the pin 12 may be cylindrical along the whole of its length and serve to lock the pin 8 to the rocker in addition to locking the hubs.
