Abstract

514.842. Driving gear. BOURKE, R. L. May 17, 1938, No. 14660. [Class 7 (ii)] Diametrally-opposed pistons are rigidly connected by transversely slotted discs 18 through which slots passes the crank-pin 2'. A ring 16 encircling the bearing 15 on. the crankpin rolls on blocks 18a having bearing-surfaces parallel to the slots in the discs 18. Thrust bearings 3, 6 separated by a split ring 5 seated in a groove in the crank-shaft support the latter at one end. The outer ring of the bearing 3 is seated in a groove in the end of the crank case. A fibre or felt pad 7 is pressed against the end of the bearing 6 by the cones 8. The crankshaft and crank are provided with a continuous bore or breather channel 2a. The piston-rods pass through packing-glands in the closed end of the cylinders.
