Abstract

104,331. Soc. Lorraine des Anciens Etablissements de Dietrich et Cie de Luneville. Jan. 26, 1916. [Convention date]. Channels in cranks, connecting-rods, and pistons. -To lubricate an internal-combustion engine piston on the side that is thrust against the cylinder wall, oil under pressure, which has passed through a hollow crank-shaft, crank-pin, and connecting-rod, enters an annular groove f in the brass of the small end of the connecting-rod and passes along a transverse passage g to two holes h in the gudgeon pin, which are connected by pipes i, j with the outer surface of the piston. As shown in Fig. 3, the passage g and holes h register during a part of the power stroke only. Distributing-grooves l are formed in the surface of the piston. In a modification, the pipes i are dispensed with, and the pipes j communicate with an annular space surrounding a liner placed inside the gudgeon pin.
