Abstract
1,062,374. Crank-shafts. HONDA GIKEN KOGYO KABUSHIKI KAISHA. May 27, 1965 [May 28, 1964], No. 25023/65. Heading F2U. Alternate webs 5 of a built-up crank-shaft, for I.C. engines, each include a main journal 2, 2A, having an offset axially extending pin 4, 4A force fitted in the adjacent intermediate webs 6, 6A integrally formed with crank-pins 8, 8A, the axes of the pins 4, 4A being radially offset from the main journal axis an amount e diametrically opposite and away from the adjoining crank-pin, enabling the diameter of the pins 4, 4A to be increased, without encroaching on the crank-pins 8, 8A, to increase the strength of the press-fit connections. Bearing rollers 3, 9 on the main-shaft and C<SP>1</SP> pin journals 2, 8 respectively are lubricated by oil supplied at 15 in the crank-case, passages 16, 17 feeding the mainshaft journals direct, whilst the crank-pin journals are fed through passages 20 interconnected with crank-pin bores 19 plugged at 21 one end, the other end opening into a chamber formed by an oil retainer ring 18 secured to the face of the web 6, which chamber directly connects with an open end 16A of the passage 16.
