Abstract

471,530. Exhaust pipes. TRIGGS, W. W. (Aktiebolaget Motorus) March 4, 1936, No. 6581. Drawings to Specification. [Class 7 (ii)] A diffuser-shaped exhaust pipe is made according to the formula where s is the variable cross-section at a distance x from the smallest cross-section <s>o, <s>max is the largest cross-section, and L is the length of the diffuser measured between the cross-sections so, <s>max. The dimensions so, <s>max, L are determined for a particular engine in accordance with piston speed, port area, number of cylinders, and firing order, formulµ being given for this purpose. The diffuser-shaped pipe may be connected to cylindrical pipes at either end and its distance from the exhaust valves may be varied.
