469,635. Controlling change speed gearing. TRIUMPH ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and TURNER, E. Aug. 24, 1936, No. 23186. [Class 80 (ii)] Change-speed control mechanism especially for motor-cycles comprises a speed-changing quadrant 9 housed in the gear casing 23 and displaced in steps by oscillations of a pedal or hand lever 16 which rocks on an axis 15, Fig. 1, at right angles to the pivot 9<1> of the quadrant. The pedal 16 is returned to its normal position shown by springs (not shown) acting on a lug 19, and in that position a pair of oppositely-acting spring plungers 12, 12<1> engage simultaneously teeth 11 on the right wing 10 of the quadrant 9. The plungers are housed in a quadrant lever 13 rigid with the pedal 16, To displace the quadrant 9 clockwise from its extreme position of Fig. 2, the pedal 16 is rocked upwards of that Figure. The plunger 12<1> rides up idly on a fixed ramp 171, Fig. 2, and the plunger 12 carries downwards with it the wing 10 of the quadrant 9 until a stop (not shown) is struck at the end of a gear step of the quadrant. The released pedal 16 then returns to normal position with both plungers 12, 121 engaged with the teeth 11 ready for another step in the same or in the opposite direction. For steps in the opposite direction, the plunger 12 rides up idly on a fixed ramp 17.
