Abstract

Ink for printing paper, cardboard, transparent cellulosic materials and other materials consists of (1) carbon black, \ba1/2\be second nitrocellulose and dimethyl phthalate, or (2) iron blue, \ba1/2\be second nitrocellulose and dimethyl phthalate. Other high boiling nitrocellulose solvents such as diethyl, dibutyl or diamyl phthalate, dimethyl, diethyl or dibutyl tartrate, triacetin benzyl alcohol, ethyl benzoate or tricresyl phosphate may be used instead of dimethyl phthalate. Such inks may be quickly set by treating the prints with a diluent for the solvent which is itself a non-solvent for the colloid so that the latter is precipitated on to the sheet.
