[Class 146 (iii)] [See also Group XVI] A block for polychromatic printing is prepared from one or more colouring-masses and printing is effected by wetting either the block or the surface to be printed with a solvent for the material of the block. Solvents may be water, alcohol, or acetone, and the colour blocks have as basis dextrine, gum lac, artificial or natural tar, or the like according to the solvent used. In examples, mixtures of the following ingredients with pigments may be used: (a) dextrine, soap, glycerine, and water ; (b) dextrine, glycerine, soap, talc, naphthalene, and water; (c) gum lac, soap, linseed oil, glycerine and alcohol ; (d) gum lac, soap, linseed oil, egg yolk, naphthalene, acetic acid, glycerine, and alcohol ; (e) gum lac, white alcohol varnish, liquid soap, linseed oil, acetic acid, and talc or potato flour, this last composition being employed as a diluent or to produce a colourless part on the print.
