Abstract

A film of a mixture of aniline dyestuffs is floated on the surface of a liquid in which the dyestuffs are not soluble, preferably by sprinkling with a brush, and is arranged in any desired patterns by means of a splinter of wood, a comb, &c. A substance with which the dyes can become incorporated, such as fabrics, paper, leather and wood, is then applied to the surface of the liquid, so as to exclude air bubbles, and the dye adheres to it. The most suitable dyes are those which are soluble in fats, e.g. the "cerotin colours" or mixtures of these with colour bases. Solvent oil is the most suitable solvent for the dyes. Specifications 19522/90 and 12564/08, [Class 93, Ornamenting], are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the process may be applied to sheet metal, the dyes being then dissolved in sapon varnish. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
