Abstract

Compositions for making a polychromatic printing block (see Group XVI) are given as follows. (1) (a) A vinyl copolymer resin or a blend of polyvinyl resin and butadiene-acrylonitrile polymer 50-60 gms., cyclo-hexanone 50-65 gms., and 8 pts., of a blue dye in 10 pts. of dioctyl phthalate 20-40 gms.; this composition may be used as it is, or 30-35 gms. of it may be mixed with stearic acid 1-2 gms., phenolic resin 2-3 gms., petroleum jelly 1-2 gms. and, according to the Provisional Specification, kaolin 14-16 gms. (b) A blend of polyvinyl resin and butadieneacrylonitrile polymer, or a latex thereof, 25-30 gms., stearic acid 2-3 gms., cyclohexanone 4-6 gms., petroleum jelly 1-2 gms., and pigments 20-30 gms. (2) (a) Urea-formaldehyde resin or modified melamine-formaldehyde syrup 5-10 gms., gum (arabic, dextrine) 50-70 gms., and pigment paste (20-30 per cent. solids by wt. in glycerine) 15 gms. (b) Modified melamine-formaldehyde syrup 10 gms., gum 10 gms., pigment powder 2-5 gms., glycerine 5 gms., and soap powder 0.2-0.5 gms. A design printed with these compositions is cured by heating to 100 DEG C. (3) Nitrocellulose 50 gms., urea-formaldehyde resin 1.2 gms., alkyd resin 15-30 gms., dibutyl phthalate 30-40 gms., pigment powder or paste 15-20 gms.ALSO:A composition for making a polychromatic printing block (see Group XVI) consists of ceresin 24 gms., beeswax 12 gms., petroleum jelly 4 gms., and powder or paste pigments 2-4 gms. One or more of the following solvents may be used for printing: turpentine, acetone, ethyl acetate, ethyl lactate, amyl acetate, butanol.
