Abstract

636,271. Printing processes. SHELLMAR PRODUCTS CORPORATION. Oct. 7, 1947, No. 26906. Convention date, June 24, 1939. [Class 100 (ii)] Drying-apparatus.-Webs of transparent materials such as that known under the Registered Trade Mark " Cellophane," after being printed by an intaglio printing-machine P in a quick-drying ink, are dried by means of radiant heat from a series of infra-red lamps 18 arranged on the side of the web opposite to the printed design 16. The drying is also assisted by heat-absorbed from the rays by the rollers 17 over which the web is passed. Fans 19 carry away the vapours formed by the heat. The web may be printed in multi-colours, and the ink employed is preferably a lacquer ink containing gums and nitrocellulose, resins, a pigment and plasticizer, and a low-boiling solvent such as toluol, xylol, and petroleum products.
