406,933. Printing processes. STEVENS, A. H., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.-(Shellmar Products Co. ; 3501, West 48th Place, Chicago, U.S.A.) Aug. 31, 1933, No. 24194. [Class 100 (ii).] A multi-colour process for printing on material such as transparent cellulose sheeting consists in printing the material with an ink, lacquer, or equivalent colour to form a visible primary design and immediately thereafter printing directly on the primary design one or more additional visible designs, usually in different colours, the vehicle or solvent used in compounding the ink or colour of the primary design being of such a nature that it will not mix with the vehicle used in the inks of the subsequent designs. The primary design is preferably printed on a continuous web by an intaglio printing-unit in an ink of light colour carried in a volatile solvent such as alcohol toluol, hydrocarbons, or other low-boiling organic solvents. The first impression is preferably dried by heat, or an air current, and the second impression is then applied by a colour incorporated in an oil vehicle, by an offset or letterpress machine. A third colour may be printed by a water-soluble gravure ink. Two secondary designs in juxtaposition with respect to each other may be printed over the primary design.
