Abstract
307,535. Trist, A. R. Dec. 9, 1927. Ink for printing from printing-plates having mercurized non-printing areas consists of partially polymerized linseed oil containing about 7¢ per cent fatty acid, pigments, and mercury; in some cases, water and a dispersing-agent may also be added. The linseed oil is prepared by heating to about 315‹ C., without burning, charring, carbonization, or ignition, until the desired fatty acid content is obtained. The amount of mercury used can be reduced by the addition of an aqueous solution of borax and shellac. Dilution can be effected by means of a high boiling-point petroleum ether such as that known as " white spirit." The following examples are given :-(a) 52.25 parts by weight of partially-polymerized linseed oil are mixed with 35 parts of carbon black, 9 parts of Prussian blue, and 3.75 parts of mercury; (b) 52.25 parts by weight of linseed oil, 35 parts of carbon black, 9 parts of Prussian blue, and 1.5 parts of mercury are mixed with 52.25 parts by weight of an aqueous solution containing 2¢-5 per cent borax and 5-10 per cent shellac.
