Abstract

466,324. Screw pumps. LUTZ, O. Sept. 17, 1936, Nos. 25293 and 25294. Convention dates, Sept. 18, 1935 and April 1, 1936. [Class 110 (ii)] The pump or compressor comprises a rotating hollow shaft g, driven by a gear-wheel a, and a multi-threaded screw c which is caused to slide to-and-fro by means of swash-plates d fixed to each end of the shaft g. The first and last threads of the screw care connected by four bars m through pins n, the bars sliding in slots x in the casing f. Fluid is pumped or compressed from an inlet E to a delivery port A, both in the swash plates following the arrows B, C. The shaft and swash-plates may remain stationary and the screw c rotate. The inlet and outlet ports may be positioned in the shaft g, partly in the shaft and partly in the swash-plates, or in the casing walls f. Fig. 6 shows a means for guiding the screws c by means of end pieces e provided with ball bearings o. Fig. 9 shows another method of coupling the screw c with the swash-plates d, through rollers k. Two rollers on each side of a single swash-plate may be provided.
