Abstract

1,227,009. Reciprocating and rotory positive displacement pumps or compressors. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. June 7, 1968 [June 7, 1967], No.27195/68. Headings F1A, F1F and FiN. A compressor or pump has a first stage pumping chamber defined between opposed cooperating frusto-conical surfaces 9, 13 of a fixed casing 1 and a wobble member 4 respectively, and one or more further pumping stages in the form of cylinders 37 containing pistons 36 reciprocated by the wobble member 4. The wobble member 4 is mounted on an inclined end portion of a shaft 10 rotated by an electric motor 33, 34. An axially extending partition 16 extends through a slot in the wobble member 3. Thus the rotating line contact between the frusto-conical surfaces 9, 13 causes fluid to be drawn into the first stage chamber through an inlet 2 on one side of the partition 16, Fig.3 (not shown), and causes fluid to be expelled through an opening (17) passing through the wobble member 4 and situated adjacent to the other side of the partition. Leakage from the first stage chamber is prevented by seals 29, 30. Fluid passing to the other side of the wobble member 4 is collected in a chamber sealed by a metal bellows 20 and passes therefrom into the pumping chamber of two cylinders 37 via valves 41 in the pistons 36. The fluid pumped from the cylinders 37 is passed through passages in the casing 1 in sequence to three other cylinders each smaller than the previous one, Fig. 2 (not shown).
