Abstract

464,768. Valve modulating circuits. SCHUCHTER, K. Oct. 23, 1935, No. 29193. Convention date, Sept. 12. [Class 40 (v)] To increase signal range, the carrier oscillations produced by the back-coupled valve 1, Fig. 1, are modulated twice by the same signal, which is applied first from a microphone 8 to the grid, and then, after amplification, as a variable load on the main oscillatory circuit 4, 5. The low-frequency components resulting from the grid modulation are transferred at 11 to a shunt-circuit coil 13, which is in series with a rectifier 12 and is coupled to the coil 5 and variably damps the circuit 4, 5, by absorption. In Fig. 2, switches 14, 15, 16 enable the valve 1 to be used either for transmission or reception. Alternatively the microphone voltage may be applied to one of the grids of a tetrode valve, the other grid being connected to the main oscillatory circuit. The first modulation may also be applied as a variable load to the main oscillatory circuit, instead of coupling the microphone directly to the grid. The second modulating circuit may be directly connected in shunt to the circuit 4, 5.
