Abstract

526,418. Valve modulating and amplifying circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and CLOUGH, N. H. Feb. 16, 1939, No. 5188. [Class 40 (v)] A modulator or amplifier comprises a main modulator valve Vm in series with a highfrequency driven amplifier R or a loud speaker or other audio-frequency load, and a sub-modulator Vs having its anode connected through a resistance Rb to the cathode of the valve Vm. Modulation input is applied at T 1 , T 2 and the varying voltage drop across Rb is applied to the grid of the valve Vm. The resistance Rb may be replaced by a resistance, shunted by condenser, in series with a choke, the resistance giving the necessary steady bias. In this modification the choke may be constituted as an auto transformer, or as a doubly wound transformer so as to apply larger variations to the grid of the valves Vm.
