458,709. Pumps for viscous liquids. JOHNSON, B. A. E., and AKTIEBOLAGET G. AREHNS MEKANISKA VERKSTAD, 20, Alstr÷mergatan, Stockholm. Dec. 17, 1935, No. 35007. [Class 102 (i)] [See also Group XVII] An extrusion apparatus for delivering portions of paste, oil, &c., comprises a spout 1 provided with one or more lateral discharge openings 13 which are covered by a delivery valve, e.g. a sleeve 12 having a central narrowed discharge opening 28 adapted to turn or move axially relatively to the spout to shut and open the discharge openings 13. The tapered end of the spout 1 forms a conical valve seat 14 the mouth of the sleeve 12 being correspondingly tapered at 17. The spout 1 is secured to the pump housing 16 the piston 3 being reciprocated in the pump cylinder 2 by a lever 5 pivoted at 6 and actuated by a cam 7 on the shaft 8. A second cam disc 9 on the shaft 8 actuates a lever 11 the forked end 18 of which engages a flange 29 on the sleeve 12. The pump cylinder 2 is provided with a toothed flange 19 engaging a rack 20 which is reciprocated by a cam 23 on the shaft 8 so that the inlet and outlet openings 24, 25 are alternately brought into register with the inlet and outlet openings 26, 27 in the housing 16. In operation, a tube A is threaded on to the sleeve 12 and with the piston moving to the left the discharge openings 25, 27 are in register and paste is forced out of the valve opening 28. The tube A is lowered during filling. On the return movement of the piston a small quantity of paste is sucked back into the spout, then the sleeve 12 shuts the openings 13 and the cylinder 2 is turned so that the openings 24, 26 are in register and fresh paste is drawn into the pump cylinder. The opening 15 in the tapered end 14 ensures that the string of paste B formed on the return stroke is situated centrally.
