Abstract

576,549. Reciprocating pumps. UNI-GUN LUBRICATING EQUIPMENT, Ltd., and MARTONFALVY, I. C. Oct. 3, 1944, No. 18931. [Class 102 (i)] In a reciprocating pump for delivering oil from a drum of the kind in which the inlet end of the pump cylinder is submerged and comprising a support 9 on the drum top for a body 7 in which is mounted a rotatable shaft 21 attached by a disc 25 to a crank pin 27 located in a housing 31 to which is screwed a comparatively long hollow connecting rod 33 of small obliquity articulated by a,ball and socket joint 35, 37 to a piston 43 at a point near the cylinder 75, the latter is carried by an outer tube 5 of co-axial tubes 5, 57 and from the annular space 55 oil passes to an outlet 61, past a double check valve 63 to a delivery tube 65. The piston rod 43 slides in a fluid tight manner through a fixed guide 45 provided with a leakage passage 49 between the tubes 5, 57, 1 and a delivery passage 47 which leads to the annular space 55. The rod 43 then assumes a decreased diameter 67 and passes through a packed spring-loaded valve 69 to the piston 79 reciprocating in the cylinder space 77 bounded by seating 73 of the valve 69 and an internally recessed screw plug 83 in the bottom of tube 5 near the oil drum bottom. The cylinder surrounded by a strainer 87 is provided with ports 85 and priming tubes 89 in such staggered relation that on the down ward stroke oil is forced to the cylinder head, whilst simultaneously oil is displaced from the space above the valve 69 to the annular space 55 by the increased diameter of the rod 43. On the upward stroke oil above. the piston 79 is forced past the valve 69 due to suction created below the guide member 45. Delivery may be regulated by means of a pressure responsive motor switch in pneumatic connection with the delivery pipe 63 by means of a conduit 95.
