[Class 79 (ii)] [See also Group I] In a motor mowing- machine, the drive for a reciprocating knife - bar is taken from the main transmission shaft of a motor vehicle at a point intermediate of a main changespeed gear and a second change-speed gear controlling only the speed of the road wheels, a separate box or casing C being arranged around the transmission shaft D between the two gear boxes C<1>, C2 and enclosing a gear-wheel d fixed on the transmission shaft and a gearwheel e slidably mounted on a second shaft e<1> and adapted to be moved by a lever E into engagement with the wheel d on the transmission shaft, the second shaft e<1> driving the reciprocating knife-bar through a crank or eccentric pin e<2> and a connecting-rod F.
