Abstract

439,790. Differential gearing. DUNFORD, W. E., 8, Wykeham Place, Stanmore, Winchester. May 31, 1935, No. 15833. [Class 80 (ii)] [See also Group XXXI] Consists in means for driving one or both road wheels positively from the driving shaft for preventing slip. The driving shaft 8 gears with a crownwheel 7 on the differential casing which carries a gear wheel 1 meshing with another 5 on a layshaft 4. The driven axles 2, 2<1> are provided with gear wheels 3, 3<1> respectively, and on the layshaft are splined gear wheels 6, 6<1> provided with collars with which forks engage. By sliding either or both wheels 6, 6<1> into engagement with the respective wheels 3, 3<1> the shafts 2, 2<1> are driven positively and directly from shaft 8. In a modification the differential casing is driven by worm and worm wheel.
