Abstract
455,636. Two-stroke engines. PETTERS, Ltd., Westland Works, Yeovil, and PETTER, P. W., East Stoke House, Stoke- Sub-Hamdon, both in Somerset. April 25, 1935, No. 12433. [Class 7 (ii)] In a two-stroke engine in which the charge is induced during normal running by the suction effect of the exhaust gas, terminal admission ports D communicate with a non-return air inlet valve D<4> and with a transfer passage F leading to the crank-case ; air is thus supplied indirectly from the crank - case, and directly past the valve D4, the supply being derived from either the atmosphere or a separate compressor. Separate ports for the two supplies may be provided in the cylinder wall, but these ports are preferably tangential and extend round the bore, being fed by an annular passage D<1>. The cross-sectional area of the passage F is less than the effective area past the valve D<4>; the exhaust valve B<2> is mechanically actuated.
