Abstract

454,039. Pipe joints. SOC. ANON. DES HAUTS-FOURNEAUX & FONDERIES DE PONT-A-MOUSSON, Pont-a-Mousson, Meurthe & Moselle, France. May 23, 1935, No. 15037. Convention date, May 25, 1934. [Class 99 (i)] Fluid-tightness in a spigot-and-socket joint for pipes 1, 2 is secured by a rubber &c. packing ring 4 which is compressed within the space between the pipe 2 and the socket 3 of the pipe 1 by a gland 5, pressure being applied to the gland by bolts 11, Figs. 1 and 3. The bolts extend through or engage the gland and are in engagement with a connecting ring 8 which is formed with annularly spaced projections 9 adapted to coact with lugs 7 on the inside of the socket 3 in a bayonet-joint manner. Means, such as stops on the ring 8, may be provided for limiting rotation of said ring. In a modification, Fig. 6, the ring 8 is omitted and the bolts 11 are provided with U-shaped heads 13 to engage the lugs 7 ; alternatively a number of hooks 20, Fig. 11, are used. Fig. 12 shows a construction in which the lugs 7 are located on the outer surface of the socket. Several other modifications are also described. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a joint, Fig. 11 (Cancelled), in which the gland 5 and ring 8 are in screwthreaded engagement at 16. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
