Abstract
452,606. Controlling motor vehicles. ARKLEY, W., 70, Essex Road, Surrey Hills, Victoria, Australia. June 21,1935, No. 17874. Convention date, June 21, 1934. [Class 79 (v)] In automobiles in which the brakes and throttle are operated by a single pedal, the pedal 1, is pivotally mounted on the end of the brake lever 3 by a spindle 4 passing through webs 5 on the pedal. The spindle 4 also passes through the end of a depending arm 6 secured to the pedal by a set screw 7 passing through a hole in the arm and one of a series of holes 8 in a web 5 so that the arm may be adjusted angularly in the plane of rotation of the pedal. Holes drilled in the arm and in the upturned end thereof receive the bent end 10 of the accelerator rod 9, which passes through an eye in the throttle lever 11 and carries a fixed stop 12 and a spring 13 causing the lever 11 to bear against this stop. The throttle alone is controlled by rocking the pedal 1 about the pivot 4. When the brakes are applied by pushing the pedal bodily forward, the throttle is also closed.
